Occupational therapy support for when life shifts, with or without a formal diagnosis
Most people think of occupational therapy in the context of injury, disability, or hospital discharge, but occupational therapy has always had a broader purpose: helping people live, function, and participate in the life they want to live.
This part of my practice is for people who don't fit neatly into a clinical category or who do have something going on, but whose primary need is support to function, adapt, and move forward.
You don't need a referral, a diagnosis, or a funding scheme to access this service. If something has shifted in your life and it's affecting how you function, what you can do, or how you feel about yourself, I can help.
Who is this for?
This area of my practice supports people who are:
Returning to work after burnout, a mental health episode, or extended leave
Managing a chronic health condition, with or without a formal diagnosis, that affects daily life
Adjusting to changes that come with ageing, including shifting capacity, roles, and independence
Going through a significant life transition such as becoming a carer, separating, retiring, relocating, or experiencing bereavement
Living with anxiety, depression, or other mental health difficulties that are affecting their daily functioning and participation
Wanting proactive support to build structure, routine, and resilience
This is an area where occupational therapy can work well alongside a psychologist or GP. I focus on the practical and functional dimension of what's getting in the way of your goals.
What I offer:
Functional Capacity Assessment: A holistic assessment of how you're currently functioning across the areas of life that matter to you including work, self-care, relationships, leisure, and daily routine. I use this to understand your situation, identify what's getting in the way, and co-design a plan that fits your goals and your life right now.
Tailored therapy & occupational coaching: A personalised, goal-focused program that works at your pace. This might include building structure and routine, energy and priority management, practical strategies for managing daily demands, or working through the barriers, psychological or practical, that are keeping you stuck.
Mental health & identity-focused OT: Occupational therapy has deep roots in mental health. I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, burnout, and adjustment difficulties, focusing on how these affect daily functioning and what practical steps can help rebuild capacity, confidence, and a sense of purpose.
Return to work after illness or burnout: Structured support to plan and manage a sustainable return to work at the right pace, with the right strategies in place. This includes pacing, workplace communication support, graduated hours planning, and building the routines that help you stay well once you're back.
Support for carers & those experiencing role change: If your role has changed significantly, such as becoming a primary carer, leaving paid work, experiencing bereavement, or moving through a major life transition, I can support you to adjust, find a new equilibrium, and reconnect with the things that give your life meaning.
Ageing & changing capacity: Support for older adults navigating the functional and identity shifts that come with ageing including adjusting to changing physical capacity, maintaining independence at home, and building confidence in managing daily life safely and on your own terms.
